The AwardAuthorized under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), Title IV, Part B, the Title 1 Office of the Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE). The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) awarded 7 out of 21 projects with a grant targeting after school programs.
In the Castle Complex, the following schools were recipients of the awards: Ben Parker Elementary, Heeia Elementary, Kahaluu Elementary, Kapunahala Elementary, King Intermediate, and Castle High School. The complex was awarded $200,000 each year for a total of $1,000,000 over the 5 year period. 2014-2015 to 2018-2019, and awarded $433,000 for school year 2019-2020. |
The Windward District writing team composed of Susan Young, Cecily Chun, Helene Tom and the 6 principals and partners. The grant was awarded in December 2014 for 5 years between 2014-2019. In May, 2019 an additional supplemental award was granted to the Castle Complex schools for school year 2019-2020. The funds received from the grant will be used to design and implement effective out-of-school programs that improve student achievement and social development. The project will adhere to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and will be aligned to the school day.
Castle Complex 21st Century Grant titled CAFE (Children And Family Together) received this award in 2006-2011, 2011-2014, 2014-2019, and 2020. By the end of the fourth consecutive award, CAFE will have been implemented for 14 consecutive years. Congratulations to the Castle Complex principals and staff for implementing successful educational and related activities that complement and enhance the academic performance, acheivement, and positive youth development of our students.
